Back in May, I checked out the Atomic Bass headphones from Radius and found them to be very good. At the time, I lamented the fact that the headphones didn’t have a mic for use with my iPhone. Today we are checking out a set of headphones from Radius called the Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic. Read on for all of the details.
Features & Specifications
The Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic have 10mm neodymium magnets for bass response and better audio. The mic is a high performance unit located on the left earphone cable. The mic case also has a control built in for pause/play and answer/end of phone calls. The headphone plug is 3.5mm and is designed to fit the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Also included are three sets of silicone caps for a more custom fit. The Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic retail for $49.99.
In Use
I really liked the Atomic Bass headphones when I reviewed them in May. I wished very much that they had a mic so I could use them with my iPhone and receive calls when needed. Radius has now released a new product that is just what I wanted -- the Atomic Bass sound quality with a mic.
The mic is positioned well and is located on the left earphone cable. It is close enough to the mouth that you can be heard clearly. The mic does a good job of not picking up room sounds, though it will pick up a bit of wind noise.
As expected, the level of bass from the headphones is superb. Bass is deep and clear without overwhelming the vocals or being uncomfortable for the wearer. High and mid range sounds are clear and crisp as well and vocals sound great.
The headphones themselves are lightweight and are comfortable to wear for long periods. The three different sizes of ear tips allow for a more customized fit for individual users adding to the comfort of the Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic.
The box the headphones ship in says that it is compatible with the iPhone 3G, which I am sure it is. However, it works just as well with the original iPhone. That iPhone 3G compatible label on the box without mention of the original iPhone may confuse some shoppers.
The Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic are also very good for watching movies or video on the iPhone and playing games. If you are like me and have found that the iPhone is a great mobile gaming platform, anyone around you will appreciate the use of headphones.

The Atomic Bass for iPhone with a Mic is a great headset for use with the iPhone or the iPhone 3G. The mic works well and the headset provides great sound quality.
