There's been a drought of new Wii/PS3 developments over the past week, but hopefully that's about to be compensated for over the next several days, when we're supposed to get all manner of new details on the next-gen consoles. Yes, folks, this week kicks off the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany, and although a lot of you have probably never heard of this convention, it's suddenly become the hotbed for next-gen news.

It comes at a perfect time for Sony and Nintendo. It's a high profile convention that is just far back enough from the console launches that it's the perfect time for both companies to give us some much needed new details. Here's a breakdown of what we're expecting to hear over the next week:Nintendo Wii:

* At least a couple launch details.
* Third-party (and likely some first-party) game announcements
* I'm sure Nintendo will throw a surprise or two in as well

- Nintendo will have a large-scale press event, entitled "Wii prove our promise", on August 23, beginning at 10:15 AM local time

Sony PS3:

Until very recently, we didn't exactly know what Sony was planning at Leipzig. We still don't really know, but according to Spong, Sony is going to make a very "interesting" announcement tomorrow, and from the hyperboles they throw around it sounds groundbreaking. If this is true, and Sony has something big up their sleeves for the PS3 that they haven't told us yet, expect that to be their highlight at Leipzig.

Be sure to check back with I4U all this week to get the latest scoop. We are your Wii and PS3 headquarters.
