Today I am going to check out the Withings WiFi Body Scale. This scale works like any other bathroom scale with a twist. It will send your weight and other data about your body to your computer or to you iPhone. If you are trying to get in shape and you want to track details about your body the Withings WiFi Body Scale may be perfect for you. Read the full review. Available on ">Amazon.
Specifications
The Withings WiFi Body Scale can display your weight in kilograms, pounds, and stones. The device has four sensors and offers weights in increments of 0.2 pounds. The maximum weight it supports is 396 pounds. The device measures body fat, lean mass, fat mass, and your BMI. The display of the scale is 2.4" x 1.6" and it uses white font on a black background. Online connectivity is via WiFi with support for secure networks.
Setup and Use
The Withings WiFi Body Scale is a very cool scale and is a great device for those trying to lose weight and get in shape. The scale looks very cool with a glass top that is smooth and hidden electrodes under the glass. The initial setup of the scale requires a connection to your computer via WiFi. Once connected you set up your accounts for the scale and it will automatically recognize who steps on the scale.
During the setup, you tell the scale your sex, age, height and it will figure your BMI, fat mass, and lean mass for you as well as track your body fat. The WiFi connectivity means that the scale will send your measurements to your computer and plot them in graphs on the secure Withings website for you to compare and track over time.
After the set up of the scale you simply step on it and it will do all the calculations and uploading of the data automatically for you. In my testing, I set up two accounts and the scale recognized who was standing on the scale and sent the data to the correct account each time. You get the BMI, weight and other info on your scales integrated display so you don’t have to wait until you go to your computer to get your data.
The coolest part is that Withings offers a free iPhone app that will allow you to track your weight and other measurements on your iPhone as well. That means you have your results to show to a trainer or to your doctor if needed. The only downside to the iPhone app is that it takes several minutes before the data is available on the iPhone.
The only real issue I had with the scale was that it had a hard time keeping a WiFi connection in my home. I put the scale in my master bathroom with is quite a ways from my WiFi router. The scale would at times lose connection meaning no data was sent to the iPhone or the computer. This could be an issue with my network and location alone though, I won’t lay all of the blame at the scales feet.
Pros
Cons
Verdict
The Withings WiFi Body Scale is a very cool scale that is accurate and measures just about everything you could need to track your weight loss goals.
