The iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock measures 9.34" x 5.83" x 3.9" and has a battery backup for the clock time with three AAA batteries. It works with the iPhone, iPod touch, and most dockable iPod models. The clock can charge and play music from your iPhone at the same time. The iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock is available now for $99.99 and works with a free app that is on the app Store now.

The iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock is called app-enhanced because it works in conjunction with an app that can gather statistics and let you set alarm from your iPhone. You can set up sleep cards that have different alarms on them to wake to. The app also has buttons for when you go to sleep and for when you wake up to track home much sleep you get.

The clock will work without the app as well. In addition to the sleep stats feature the app can also gather news for your while you sleep and lets you interact with social networks. I used the iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock with my iPhone 3GS.

The clock is compact and has no bright lights, which makes it great for the bedside. Docking the iPhone in the dark is a serious challenge though. The clock is easy to set and you can set it manually with buttons on the front of the clock. The easiest way to set the clock is to hit the time sync button on the back that uses the time on your iPhone to set the clock.

The buttons that turn the clocks internal alarm on and off are on the rear. That means to turn the alarm off or on you have to grope behind the clock. The buttons that control the alarm have raised bumps so you can find them, but that is a pain in the rear. It would be much better if the controls where backlit and where you could see them

The speaker dock function of the iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock is very nice. It has good sound and while the bass isn’t standout, the overall sound is well balanced and crisp. A lie in on the rear lets you play music from other devices and you can adjust the bass and treble independently. The snooze is programmable to one to 29 minutes of extra sleep. The app the iPhone and iPod touch runs will put bedtime and wake time status updates on Twitter and Facebook for you. There is no remote for controlling music from across the room.

  • Time sync feature is cool
  • Good sound

  • Important controls on back are hard to reach
  • No remote

The iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock is a very nice alarm clock speaker dock with a cool app that is great for those who want to tell everyone when they wake and go to sleep on social networks. It has a few caveats, but mostly the iHome iA5 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock is a very nice alarm clock for the iPhone.
