Philips announces Ambisound HTS8100 at CES

Philips announces a stylish sound projector named in relation to their Ambilight flatscreen TV feature Ambisound.

The Ambisound HTS8100 is featuring Philips’ proprietary Ambisound technology. The HTS8100 SoundBar creates a full 5.1 surround sound experience through a one-piece fully integrated home theater system.
This is what the Yamaha YSP series already does since a couple of years. I still like my YSP-1000. Scifi apparently already heard a HTS8100 and does not like it that much. The Ambisound SoundBar features five amplifiers, similar to a 5.1 system, integrated into a single horizontal sound bar. The HTS8100 uses a host of technologies including array processing, precise driver positioning and psycho-acoustic innovation to achieve the full surround sound performance.

The HTS8100 will be available in second quarter 2007 and retail for $999. Philips offers the HTS6600 using the same technology but in a two speaker system. The HTS6600 will sells for $599.
