Sony Ericsson Readies a Phone that Stinks

Japan gets way more than its fair share or weird gadgets and gizmos and if they aren’t designed to keep your warm the seem to be centered on smell. Sony Ericsson is introducing a new phone in Japan only called the S0703i that has a scent slot.

I’m serious this phone comes with a slot that holds one of eleven scented sheets. I can’t find information anywhere on exactly what scent the sheets will hold but does it really matter? This is just plain weird to me. Why would you want your phone to smell? Is the natural aroma in Japan so bad that a phone with the ability to mask said odor is a hot item? Is it just that while we here in the USA get all excited about phones with big screens, the lucky Japanese who get gear we can only dream of get so jaded by gear that normally excited geeks that they move into absurd features like scents?
