Toshiba to Drop Entry Price for HD DVD Players

Last week we talked a bit about which format might win the Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD war. This week’s salvo in the battle comes from the HD DVD camp with Toshiba announcing a significant price drop on their entry level HD DVD player.

The Toshiba A2 HD DVD player will carry an MSRP of $399 as of April 1. The other HD DVD players in the Toshiba line will also get new pricing with the A20 set at $499 and the XA2 high-end version coming in at $799.Personally if I jump on the HD DVD bandwagon I think I will go the Xbox HD DVD way. I guess slashing prices is better than ending up as a big purveyor of the tech that loses out in the format war, assuming there is a winner and a loser. Story and image via Engadget
