Sony introduced several new products at the Sony Media Experience down in Rhodes. One of them is the first home cinema projector under the BRAVIA brand.
The Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW15 HD Ready projector has great specifications like 1,300 lumens brightness, 12,000:1 contrast ratio, 24p True Cinema and 20db low noise level.
The lens can be shifted horizontally and vertically. The horizontal shift is a bit limited with 0.25. The already outdated Sanyo PLV-Z4 supported already 0.5.
The price will be about 1,400 Euro. Which will be translating into $1,400 USD I assume. Release is supposed to be in June 2007.
The coolest thing on the demonstration of the BRAVIA AW-Series projector at the workshop presentation for me was the DynaClear screen. The Sony Dynaclear is a 80 inch portable screen featuring a special screen material that brings provides a very high contrast even in bright ambient light, so you get a great picture at any time of day or night. See a photo of the screen in action below. The photo shows on the left the DynaClear screen and on the right a conventional screen.
Sony is pondering to actually offer the AW15 or AW10 in bundle with the DynaClear screen.
The Sony BRAVIA AW10 has lower performance offering less contrast with 6,000:1 and the lens and iris are less advanced.
