The English Premier League, of all things, is the latest to announce it plans to sue YouTube for copyright infringement. The sports organization alleges that YouTube "knowingly misappropriated" its copyrighted material by allowing users to post game footage on the site.
Over half a dozen big media companies have threatened similar legal action in the past, but none has actually gone to court. A highly publicized $1 billion lawsuit is however still ongoing."Defendants which own and operate YouTube have knowingly misappropriated and exploited this valuable property for their own gain without payment or licence to the owners of the intellectual property," says the lawsuit.
The league is seeking monetary damages but the specific amount sought was not made publicly available.
