The United Kingdom's banking industry has approved a new form of credit card payments. Already sort of in place in the United States, the payment method will allow purchases of less than £10 by just holding the card up next to a wireless scanner.
Visa and Mastercard are already lined up for the new payment option, as are several retailers in London. It will begin rolling out in September, with a "national upgrade" planned for next year.By the end of 2008, officials say more than 5 million contactless cars will be in circulation.
