Sony announced the new 80GB Sony PS3 early July. The first retailers started to ship the updated Playstation 3 with the bundled MotorStorm game.
Interestingly several stores I checked ship the new Sony PS3 at very different shipping dates. GameStop is apparently shipping the 80GB PS3 right away.
Amazon.com offers the 80GB PS3 for pre-order with a shipping date of August 12th (Update: Ships now too!). Toys'R'Us has a shipping date of August 6th for the new Sony Playstation 3 package. Best Buy sticks with Amazon's late shipping date of August 12th.
The price of the 80GB Sony PS3 is everywhere the same with $599.99. This PS3 of course also still qualifies (until September 30th) for the 5 free Blu-ray movie offer.
If you are not into MotorStorm the 60GB Sony PS3 with $499.99 is still the better deal (Amazon.com). you can any time replace the HDD of the PS3 with a larger one if you need more space.
