Diebold Granted Patents for Interfacing Mobile Phones with their ATM Machines

Diebold ATM’s are some of the most common ATM’s used in banking. Over the last 18 months Diebold has been granted five U.S. Patents all relating to methods of allowing portable phone users to interact with Diebold ATM’s with their mobile phones.

The technology covered in these patents will allow mobile phone users to get directions to the nearest ATM, order cash withdrawals remotely, generate electronic checks to pay for items, transmit wireless payments, and conduct other transactions.

"Diebold's new patented technology has the potential to offer myriad applications to boost the convenience and personal security factors of using an ATM," according to Jim Block, director, global advanced technology, Diebold. While no cellular provider is offering these services at the current time, Diebold says it is in discussions with technology partners to bring these applications to reality.
