This would be a great thing for mobile device users as we would then only need one charger to be able to charge or power and manufactures mobile handsets. Nokia was one of the main manufacturers that pushed for this recommendation.
Nokia says that by reducing the number of cables needed for mobile device users, they could improve the user experience. This comes as a bit of a shock to me since standardizing on one connector would mean a reduction in charging and power accessory sales for the phone makers.
