The DivX video encoding standard becomes more and more popular. Plextor jumps on the trend with a Video converter Gadget that is DivX certified.
Anybody who tried to compress and convert Video knows how much CPU power and time it takes. To have an external box deal with the work frees up the PC for other tasks. Still a the PC should have some solid power for the data transfer between the Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U and the hard-drive.
Besides DivX the ConvertX also supports MPEG-4, MPEG-1/Video CD and MPEG-2/DVD formats. The box takes video input directly from TVs, VCRs, DVD players and camcorders. The encoding is performed in realtime while capturing the video from the source. The PX-M402U has a USB 2.0 interface.
The Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U sells for $148.99 on Amazon.com.
