Sony Electronics announced today their latest internal Blu-ray burner for PC that has a 4x write speed. That is twice the speed of the previous version of the Blu-ray burner. The new 4x write speed can burn a full 50Gb disc is 45 minutes.
The Sony BWU-200S Blu-ray burner is a BD-R multi format drive. It can also burn CDs and normal DVDs. CyberLink BD software is bundled with the drive for capturing, editing, burning and viewing HD content.
The drive can also playback DVDs in AVHCD format. One single 50GB Blu-ray disc can hold up to 230 minutes of HD video at 1080i. The drive uses SATA interface rather than the more traditional PATA connectivity you normally see on optical drives. The drive will be available next month for $600 at Sony Style.
