SanDisk announced today that it is launching a new 8GB SDHC card. The Extreme III SDHC card has a Class 6 speed rating, the fastest rating available for SDHC cards.
The large capacity of the card is good for up to 4000 high-resolution pictures or up to 16 hours of video. My Nikon D80 can get 2000 full resolution 10MP JPEG images on the OCZ Class 6 SDHC card I reviewed not long ago.
The card ships with a SDHC card reader and carries a MSRP of $179.99. SanDisk says that the free card reader is a $20 value. "With the introduction of more cameras that can use SDHC, including the Nikon D80 and the Canon EOS-1D Mark II, the SanDisk Extreme III card is an ideal choice for those who want maximum dependability, durability and fast download speeds," said Tanya Chuang, SanDisk's director of retail product marketing for global imaging. "Also, since many of these cameras have extended video capabilities, the 8GB capacity provides users with storage for longer movie clips."
