The Zipit Wireless Messenger 2 is now available for $149.99. The device allows Wi-Fi instant messaging without needing a computer. The Z2 won the 2007 DigitalLife Best of show award for portable gear.

All major IM services are supported including AOL, Yahoo, and MSN. The device also features a MyTunez media player that plays music stored on an optional miniSD card or from Internet radio.

The device is positioned for kids or single computer homes where one member is a heavy IM user. "IMing is the dominant form of electronic communication for teens. A recent AP article cited the unique, conversational aspects of IMing that continue to drive teen usage and also stated that one in 10 teens spend three or more hours a day sending instant messages to their friends," said Frank Greer, CEO and president of Zipit Wireless Inc.
