At the CES 2008, Alienware got a lot of attention for their curved DLP monitor. Today I just stumbled over coverage from MacWorld Expo 2008 where NEC also showed a curved DLP monitor.
NEC calls their curved display prototype CRVD-LMD. The Alienware branded and the NEC branded curved displays are the same and made by Ostendo Technologies.
NEC revealed some specifications for this cool looking display: 42.4" inch diagonal, 2,880x900px resolution, response time <0.02ms, 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The price could be around $5,000 if NEC actually brings this prototype to the market. With all the attention Alienware got for this immersive video game display, NEC should definitely hurry up.
About Ostendo Technologies:
Ostendo Technologies is an OEM designer & manufacturer of unique, high
performance display modules ideal for many commercial & consumer
applications. Ostendo Technologies is based in Carlsbad, CA. More details on their site.
More details and photos from the NEC curved display can be found on Arstechnica. More photos of the Alienware curved display.
