Garmin launched a new series of GPS units at CeBIT today called the 2x5 series. The series includes the nuvi 255 and 255w. The nuvi 255 has a 3.5-inch screen and the 255w has a 4.5-inch screen. Both displays feature a shaded elevation mapping system.
Both models can also utilize Garmin Connect Photos allowing users to download geo-located photos provided by Google Panoramio photo sharing. Both devices are powered by a 333 MHz processor and use Garmin’s new HotFix feature that calculates position information without needing further satellite information.
Both the 255 and 255w will be available in versions containing maps that cover North America, Europe, Australia or New Zealand. Models with North American, Australia and New Zealand maps feature text-to-speech voice navigation. The 255w is set for availability in Q2 2008 at $373.32 and the 255 will be available in Q2 2008 as well for $319.99.
