NEC announced an affordable network ready projector this week called the VT800. The VT800 carries a retail price of $999 and will ship in April 2008. The VT800 has a full feature list including the ability to show closed captioning.

"The VT800 projector offers features necessary to educators and corporate users," said Bob Guentner, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. "This extremely bright portable projector captures audience attention in classrooms and meeting rooms, and can be easily managed over the network, saving the IT department time and money."

Other features include 2700 lumens brightness, 1024 x 768 native resolution, 500:1 contrast ration, up to 3000 hours of lamp life and a built-in 5W speaker. An ECO mode reduces power consumption by 50% and PIP and side-by-side images are supported.
