A new rumor about the iPhone is making its rounds. According to TrustedReviews analyst firm Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney says Apple has just placed an order for 10 million 3G capable iPhones that use OLED displays.

The analyst claims that the change to the OLED screen was a requirement to add 3G capability to the iPhone because the lower power requirements of the OLED screen offset the power needed for 3G connectivity.

Who knows if this is legit and something that will happen, however, it’s a no brainer for Apple to launch a 3G version of the iPhone and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the upgrade benefits being the new phone can handle Java since its questionable if the current iPhones will.
