The Singer Sewing Company has teamed up with Nintendo to create a new sewing machine system using Game Boy technology that automatically sews stitch patterns, buttonholes and lettering. The system, called Izek, includes a sewing machine, Game Boy, connection wire and special cartridge that contains stitch pattern designs.

Sony announced development of a small walking and soccer playing robot. The robot is based on the AIBO OPEN-R architecture. It can be controlled through voice commands. His built in camera enables the robot to differentiate colors. His walking speed is 15m per minute.

eMarker, Bookmark a Song

Remember the Xenote Device ? eMarker is trying todo the same, but with a different approach. They already cover nearly every radio station in the USA.
With a little device from Sony (Sony eMarker, 19,95$) you can bookmark up to 10 songs you hear on the radio. When connecting the device to the PC, it shows the song title and links to Online CD stores for that song you heard, when you where standing in traffic on 101 north.

Sony is currently offering through NTT Docomo in Japan a cool iMode phone. It features a 120x120 dots color display with all kinds of PDA functions in a 122x42x17mm case and weighs 73g. There should be another version in the works which features MP3 player functions.

These ultra thin, flexible displays will be a new era for battery-powered information appliances such as PDAs, cellphones, pagers, watches and handheld computers. They deliver the readability of paper under virtually any conditions, without backlighting. And electronic ink displays are persistent without power, drawing current only when they change.
E Ink is based on the electronic ink research in the MIT Media Lab.

Electro Textiles

Using conductive fibers, Britain's Electro Textiles has produced a fabric that can measure both pressure and XY position when you touch it. Applications run from biomedical sensors to this cool PDA keyboard you can fold up and stuff in your pocket - or even throw in the wash. The company rolled out a prototype keyboard at IT Expo in Cannes, and expects to have it on the market next year.

Xircom releases a new version of the Rex Check Card sized PDA. The new Rex 6000 features calendar, contacts, task lists, and memos, plus it downloads internet content via www.REX.net. It synchronizes information between desktop computer via an optional USB or Serial-connected cradle, or directly with laptop computer via the PC Card slot.
For input with a stylus it features a touchscreen with onscreen keyboard.
Xircom sells it online for 149.99$ without cradle and 189.99$ with cradle.

The DS1957B Java™-powered iButton® on a 2-in-1 Fob serves as both a physical key for granting access to buildings and a computer key for secure network log-on as well as trusted e-signatures for the Internet. One end of the 2-in-1 fob holds an iButton for door entry and the other end has a protected Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector for universal access to computers.
Inside the 16mm steel-encased iButton is a Java computer with 64 kbytes ROM and 134 kbytes RAM that can store over 30 X.509v3 certificates with 1024-bit keys. In addition, the DS1957B can store hundreds of user names and passwords, a color ID picture and the application programs of many different service providers.

Sprint offers a Music service powered by HitHive with the phone, where users can store MP3 files and download them everywhere they go. Currently they run a promotion for one year free music service (120USD value).
