Cool Accessories for Your iPhone 5

Cool Accessories for Your iPhone 5

With the holiday shopping season come and gone, I'd wager a bunch of people out there have a shiny new iPhone 5 that they're looking to keep shiny and undamaged. If that's the case, you're probably in the market for some new accessories to go with your iPhone 5. This list is going to run down some of the most appealing cases for the iPhone 5 on the market today.

The first product is made by a company called Ballistic. The case is the Ballistic SG Maxx series case designed specifically for users who tend to drop things. In this case is specifically designed to meet military specifications and to protect your iPhone 5 from drops and other impacts. The case comes with a holster to hold the iPhone 5 on your waist or on the belt.

The case itself offers five layers of protection with a layer of molded screen protection, a layer of ballistic shock absorbing polymer, a layer of cut impact resistant polycarbonate, and a soft silicone reinforced with Ballistic Corners. All four of those layers go on the iPhone 5 to protect the smartphone in the event of a drop.

The upside of this case is that it's one of the most protective cases you'll find anywhere. The downside is that the case adds significant bulk to the iPhone. In fact, the case and so much bowl that you may not be able to slip the phone in your pocket. This is why the case comes with its own holster. Another downside is the price; this case sells for $50.

If you're worried about looks as you are protection, that Ballistic case may be too thick and unattractive for your tastes. A company called Musubo has a number of good-looking cases that will protect your iPhone 5 from drops. One of the best-looking cases that the company offers is called the HyperGrip.

This is a simple case with ridges on the outside that is designed to look like the grip of a tennis racket. Even if you don't like tennis or don't know what the grip to a tennis racket looks like, the Hypergrip is still a very attractive case. It's made from durable silicone and will offer protection in the event of a short drop. This case sells for $29.99 and is available in several colors. It doesn't come close to offering the same sort of protection as the Ballistic case I mentioned before, but the case is much thinner making it easy to fit in a pocket, which is more important to some people than ultimate protection.

If you would case it can also provide some additional runtime for your iPhone when United, a company called iBattz has an interesting case note the Mojo Hi5 Powerbank Case for the iPhone 5. This case has two components. The case itself that fits the iPhone 5 is a stiff polycarbonate case that will help protect from drops and impacts. The device ships with white case and a black case to suit your taste.

The outside of the case has a geometric design and three little openings. Those three little openings are designed to allow a thin external battery pack to clip to the back of your iPhone. The thin battery pack itself has 2500 mAh of power inside promising to double the runtime of your iPhone 5. The downside to the removable battery form factor is that the case requires the use of the factory iPhone 5 charge cable. That means you have to carry the cable around with you when you will use the battery power. This case sells for $79.90.

My personal favorite case right now for the iPhone 5 comes from Seidio. I don't need the sort of protection offered by the Ballistic case, and I want something a little less flashy than the Hypergrip. The Surface with metal kickstand from Seidio is the perfect case for my needs. It is made from polycarbonate in two pieces and slides over the top and bottom of your iPhone 5 offering all around protection. The only downside to the case is if you use screen protection film, which I do, the case fits so snugly that it tends to cause the screen film to peel or bubble.

You can still use the screen protection film, you just have to fiddle with it a bit to get it to lay flat. The kickstand is nice if you want to watch videos on your phone without having to hold the phone in your hand. The case adds very little bulk making it easy to slip in and out of the pocket of your jeans. The case is available in a number of colors for $34.95. I think this is the perfect go-between for people who want more protection than a basic silicone case offers that don't need the sort of protection offered from multilayer cases.
