Apple Smartphone Market Share to Peak 22% Says ABI Research
ResearchfirmABI Research has offered up some predictions for the smartphone market over the coming year and beyond. The research firm predicts that smartphone shipments will account for 50% of all handset shipments by 2014. By 2018, the company predicts that 2.4 billion smartphones will ship making up 69% of all handset shipments.
The research firm also predicts that Apple will see its share of the smartphone market peak at 22% during 2013. The company predicts that Apple's 22% market share will remain flat throughout 2018. While Apple remains flat, ABI Research is predicting that Samsung will grow significantly.
ABI Research also predicts that 35% of all handsets shipped and 50% of all smartphones shipped in 2018 will feature LTE connectivity. LTE connectivity will be the fastest-growing WWAN technology in history according to the company with growth in smartphone shipment penetration being driven by the low-cost smartphone segment. The company predicts that smartphones with wholesale ASP of under $250 will account for 62% of smartphone shipments by 2018.
