Porsche offers a plug-in hybrid
Porsche has pulled the wraps off its very first plug-in hybrid vehicle with the addition of the Panamera S E-Hybrid to its line. The new E-hybrid replaces the previous Panamera hybrid and offers a more powerful electric motor and a significantly larger battery pack. The lithium-ion battery pack in this vehicle has 9.4 kWh of power compared to the 1.7 kWh of the previous hybrid.
The new electric motor also produces 95 hp, which is more than twice the 47 hp output of the previous hybrid electric motor. Total horsepower from the hybrid is 416 hp from a twin turbo V-6 engine. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings are unavailable for the car at this time.
Porsche says that the new E-Hybrid can drive for 20 miles on electricity alone in needs about 2.5 hours to recharge completely. Top speed on battery power is 84 mph and overall top speed is 167 mph. Port promises that the hybrid sports car can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The E-Hybrid starts at $99,000.
