Detroit Electric SP:01 is the Fastest Production Electric Vehicle in the World

After offering up a couple of teaser shots and a bit of info, Detroit Electric has officially unveiled its new all electric sports car. The car is a mid-engined all electric limited edition two-seat sports car with a 200 hp electric motor. The electric motor is being built in the United States and is mated to a lithium polymer battery pack.

The manufacturer claims that the vehicle can reach 62 mph in 3.7 seconds. The car also promises a 180-mile driving range per charge. The claim of world's fastest production electric vehicle comes because the vehicle was able to reach 155 mph.

I wonder how long the battery pack would last at that speed. The car also features carbon fiber bodywork helping it to keep its curb weight to 2359 pounds. Pricing for the car starts at $135,000.
