Need for Speed Movie Now Filming

I'm a sucker for video games with cars and movies with lots of car chases. You can understand why I'm pretty excited at the thought of a movie based on the Need for Speed video game filming right now in California. Some photographs from the set of the movie have turned up showing that the film will have some incredibly exotic cars.

Among the cars on the movie set are a McLaren P1, Bugatti Veyron SuperSports, and a GTA Spano. I'd wager those are only a few of the high-end exotic automobiles that will be used in the movie. The film is expected to hit theaters in March of 2014.

I certainly hope this film is able to break out of the bad video game-based movie mold that has plagued Hollywood. I'll still go see this movie just to see the cool cars.

Why You Never Actually Feel the Need For Speed In Video Games

Source: Discover Magazine

Dow Falls As Technology Sector Stocks Tumble
You might have the need for speed, but in video games, you never feel it. Maybe that’s why we went from sprinting at super-human speeds in Doom to trudging along in Call of Duty. Video games have to fool us into thinking we are going fast or slow. Like how you judge the speed of traffic when merging onto a highway, video game developers use the relative positions of objects to give players a sense of speed. When you hit the gas in GTA V, for example, you get the impression that you are ...

Ubisoft’s massive open world racing game The Crew may turn new fans onto the racing genre

Bundeswehr Holds Alpine Adventure Camp 2014
Often in open world games, settings and backdrops are expansive, but in reality there isn’t very much to do in them. This isn’t the case with The Crew. Imagine a virtual world larger than Grand Theft Auto V, Forza Horizon and Red Dead Redemption combined and encompassing the entire United States. A quick look at the game’s massive map reveals a United States dotted with activities. From end to end, the map spans over an enormous 7000 miles of road and 15 cities. Oh, and i ...

EA apologizes for April Fools’ Day tweet bashing the Wii U

Source: Ars Technica

One of the first rules of good humor is that you should always punch up, not down. Someone at EA seems to have forgotten that rule when it used April Fools' Day as an excuse to tweet a few jokes at the expense of the struggling Wii U. Yesterday, the official Twitter account for EA's Frostbite Engine—which powers everything from Battlefield and Need for Speed to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare—pushed out a (since-deleted) message openly mockin ...
