Cody Wilson created the world’s first 3-D printed gun and has used it to fire shots. After the launch of the “Liberator” as it is called, things will never be the same again. It is named in tribute to the dirt cheap pistols thrown by the Allied Forces over France during WWII.
At first sight you can’t believe your eyes. The pistol is entirely made of plastic. It has just been formed inside a 3-D printer that can create solid objects just as easily as an inkjet printer can form colorful prints on paper. Despite the explosion it makes when it fires a bullet the invention of Cody Wilson seems to be untouched after the act. It is safe and sound. According to BBC News, Wilson who is a law student and a libertarian anarchist formed a weapons group by the name of Defense Distributed. The basic plans to create such a firearm were available to any Tom, Dick or Harry on the Internet via Wiki Weapon. As for the actual smelting procedure and creation process for that you will need the services of a 3-D Printer.

In the words of the creator “You can print a lethal device. It’s kind of scary.” All you would need was a PC and an Internet connection. It was on 1st May that is Labor Day that the device was tested on a remote shooting ground close to Austin, Texas. The founder has kept the location a secret. He did however give an exclusive interview and even let photographs be taken of the device. The result: it was a smashing success. Though for now it is a limited phenomenon, it may one day reach mass levels of usage. And while the thought is exhilarating it is also a sign of dangerous times that lie ahead. The fact that any criminal can get a sample and go on a shooting spree is a very fearsome thought. It is spine-chilling indeed.
The government has started to look into the matter. They don’t want trouble when there is already so much gun violence in the United States. The fact that the device is made of plastic and can pass undetected through many of the weapon detectors is cause for deep concern. Meanwhile, Wilson is still not satisfied due to the misfiring of the gun. He wants to perfect his deadly weapon. With Obama blaming America’s woes on the gun culture which is so rampant, it is somewhat of a blow to the hopes of peaceful people when radicals like Cody Wilson create weapons which can be possessed by anyone from the troubled teenager with a wild side to the sick psychopath with a paranoid streak. At least for now this is not exactly a good sign for what lies ahead.
