Neither Dale Earnhardt Jr. nor Danica Patrick is the most mentioned NASCAR driver on television this season.
With a Daytona 500 victory and in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career it would seem logical that Dale Earnhardt Jr., would be talked about more than any other driver during telecasts of NASCAR Sprint Cup races.
Not so, as NASCAR's most popular driver is ranked fifth. Nor is Danica Patrick ranked No. 1 in mentions by NASCAR ... Source: SBNation

Recording artist and shameless bandwagon sports fan Drake was in his element Sunday night as the host of the 2014 ESPYS.In addition to MCing the ESPN awards show, Drake also busted out a pair of original songs that were, well, interesting. Displaying a soft tone and wry sense of humor, Drake first performed a song he called "Honorable Mentions"—a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the second-place finishers in sports. It featured subtle shots at everyone from LeBron James to Danica Pat ... Source: Bleacher ReportFull article at: Bleacher ReportJul 16 2014, 9:57pm CDT
So, the ESPYS took kind of a dark turn tonight. It started off innocently enough with Drake performing a medley interlude, starting with a song about the athletes who have never won anything—taking playful jabs at Dan Marino, Danica Patrick, and others—and then he started singing about Side Pieces. And then Brian McKnight showed up and started singing about ... Source: Deadspin

A wild race at Daytona included three rain delays, two massive crashes and a first-time winner after the rain-shortened event. That, my friends, is a busy holiday weekend for NASCAR.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Aric Almirola grew up two hours from Daytona International Speedway, attended countless races as a kid and even “dreamed about what it would be like to have a chance to race at the highest level at this racetrack.”
He found out Sunday, after two days of thunderstorms, three red-flag stoppages and dozens of wrecked cars.

For the first time during the entire season, a driver not named Matt Crafton or Kyle Busch finally collected a checkered flag in a Camping World Truck Series race at Gateway Motorsports Park.
That driver's name is Darrell Wallace Jr., who came away with his second victory in the truck series at the St. Louis track. Now Wallace and the entire CWTS field will likely have to contend with a field of Sprint Cup regulars at Kentucky for the UNOH 225.

SONOMA, Calif. — Jamie McMurray took the time to help rookie teammate Kyle Larson learn the road course at Sonoma Raceway.
The payoff for working together was two Chip Ganassi Racing cars in the top three of the starting field of Sunday’s race.
McMurray won the pole for Sunday’s race with a track record lap that bumped AJ Allmendinger from the top starting spot, and Larson qualified a surprising third.
