Twitter acquires social startup company Spindle

Twitter has acquired another startup.

This time, it's a social company named Spindle that specializes in helping people discover the best social updates from shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions.

Spindle is currently available in a few parts in the U.S., but Twitter seems to have the hunch about its potential. The app lets users search local updates within an area, with maps indicating where the fun is.

Users can also use setup keyword alerts to receive updates and notifcations. The company announced the acquisition on its blog today, saying that the team will be elocating and joining the Twitter team in San Francisco.

"As part of this change, we’ll be sunsetting the Spindle service today to focus on these new and exciting opportunities," it said.
