Apple dominates streaming devices market, says report

According to the latest Consumer Video Devices Market report by Frost & Sullivan, Apple owns 56 percent of the streaming devices market in the year 2012. Trailing behind the Cupertino-based technology giant is digital media company, Roku, with 21 percent.

For starters, the Frost & Sullivan report details market drivers, restraints to market growth, product and pricing trends, competitive landscape, and market forecasts and trend analysis broken out by region of the world for the next five years. You can read the rest of the report here.

Explaining the reason for Apple's dominance, the report cites Apple TV's AirPlay feature as the primary reason. The feature, which simplifies the process of transferring laptop and tablet displays to a TV screen, is considered as major contributing factor to purchase iDevices.

Roku's disposition is expected. The company is considered as the largest vendor in the video streaming market, with content agreements to top TV vendors including Time Warner Cable.

About the Geek Mind

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
