Californians got their first Amber Alert Message on their cell phones this week.

AMBER Alert is a great system that has already helped find lots of missing kids. Now, for the first time, people in California have received an Amber Alert message on their phones. This is a new feature that has been in place since January 1st. Since then Amber alerts have been part of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) program. If you have a WEA-enabled phone, you are automatically enrolled for the three alerts: President, Imminent Threat and AMBER Alerts. The addition of AMBER Alerts to this notification system is a result of a partnership between CTIA and the wireless industry, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

You can find out more about the Amber Alert system here. To see the latest active Amber Alerts visit this page.
