Apple is expected to launch its 5th generation iPad model along with second generation iPad mini Retina display with A7X chips, in 4th quarter of 2013. While a lower cost upgraded model of iPad mini with A6 chip inside, is expected to be launched in early 2014.
Apple is said to launch three new iPads by the end of 2013 and in early 2014 despite all production challenges. Ming-Chi Kuo is a well-known KGI Securities analyst who has strong track record in Apple predictions. His recent research report speculates that the TDD-LTE supported new iPad 5 and second-gen iPad mini Retina display will come by the end of this year or in early 2014. But most of the sources and Kuo's previous reports points towards the launch of new iPad in Q4 of 2013. TDD-LTE technology will make new iPads compatible with China Mobile's network.
Kuo report also reveals that the both iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 will have latest A7X chip inside. If it is true, it will be a big upgrade for iPad mini as its current version supports A5 chip. This big chip upgrade might be done to support Retina display. Like Kuo said in his report, "Since iPad mini 2 will feature better resolution with retina display, we think its AP will have the same grade as iPad 5 - the A7X."
Kuo also notes that components of both these models will be shipped by the end of this quarter while the mass production will begin in 4th quarter of 2013. This claim also supports previous speculations of the fall launch of new iPad tablets. Despite of all production challenges, Apple has to launch new iPad mini Retina display by the end of current year to compete with rivals.
Accordiing to MacRumors, Kuo said that "we now believe that iPad mini 2 may be pulled in for launching in late 2013. Since other brand vendors are all expected to have a line-up of new high resolution 7-8” tablets to launch over the next 3-6 months, we think iPad mini 2 may lose its opportunity in the market if it is slated for introduction next year. Despite minimal form factor differentiation and unchanged casing colors, we think the retina display will still boost iPad mini 2’s attractiveness. Although the model’s availability is small due to production issues, if iPad mini 2 gets an introduction and launch this year, it should be able to impact consumers and freeze their budget for other brand vendors’ tablets."
Third tablet that Kuo believes Apple will launch in early 2014 is an upgrade of current iPad mini model. It will offer users a low-cost iPad mini tablet with upgraded A6 chip but a non-Retina display. Apple is all set to hold a media event on September 10th. New iPhone line-up and iOS will be launched during the event along with expected Apple TV latest version. But now speculations points that new iPad line-up will be launched later this year.
