Apple's new product launch event is just a day away on September 10th. But no new iPads are expected on Tuesday. In fact, iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 is expected to come later in Q4 of this year along with an iPad mini Retina display. Meanwhile, the low-cost iPad mini is likely to come in early 2014.
Just after a day, we will see Apple's much rumored iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C along with new operating system iOS 7. What we will be missing on this event are most likely the new iPad versions. Most of the current rumors and speculations hint that Apple will not launch new iPad versions on Tuesday. The new iPad versions will be launched later in this year. A recent report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors) has raised speculations about the new iPad versions launch and internal specs. We will give you a brief summary here about the expected launch date, specs and other details about the upcoming iPad versions.
Don't Miss: MWC 2017 Highlights
The 5th generation of Apple's flagship iPad tablet will come with new iPhones on September 10th. But Kuo's recent report and many other speculations suggest that the new iPad version will come later on in the year. But it will be launched before the end of 2013. The new iPad version is completely redesigned in its form which is now square than bathtub-shaped. It will look almost similar to the design of the iPad mini 2. But it will be less wide, thinner and lighter than the current version as shown by the leaked casing images on Unbox Therapy. Screen size will though remain pretty much the same i.e. 9.7-inch. The iPad 5 will be 17cm wide rather than like the 18.5cm of iPad 4 due to its thin bezel on the longer sides. Also a processor upgrade is there in the upcoming version. iPad 5 will feature a new A7X chip while iPad 4 is now running an A6X processor. New speaker grilles and a tapered back are also seen in the leaked Unbox Therapy’s video for the iPad 5. Some speculations also point towards the fact that the iPad 5 will be announced on October 22 along with the iPad mini 2. Both devices are also rumored to launch on November 1st. iPad Mini 2
The launch of a second generation iPad mini is also expected along with iPad 5. Both tablets will come in the same thin-looking design with the selfsame A7X chip. But the chip upgrade is greater for the iPad mini. The current first generation of mini tablets run on A5 chips. Other specs of new 7.9-inch display iPad mini 2 will remain same except for a shinier Apple logo on the back. A Toronto-based Unbox Therapy of Lewis Hilsenteger, has also posted a leaked video for iPad mini 2 too. 13.5cm wide new iPad mini 2 is narrower than current. Watch the video to take a closer look at new iPad mini 2 in comparison with current iPad mini model.
iPad Mini Retina Display
The Retina display model of iPad mini 2 is not expected to come this year. However, Kuo believes that we can see a Retina display model of iPad mini 2 by the end of this year. He said that the addition of high-tech A7X chip in the structure of the iPad mini 2 is actually meant to support the high resolution of Retina display. Kuo states, "Despite minimal form factor differentiation and unchanged casing colors, we think the retina display will still boost iPad mini 2’s attractiveness. Although the model’s availability is limited due to production issues, if iPad mini 2 gets an introduction and launch this year, it should be able to impact consumers and freeze their budget for other brand vendors’ tablets."
Low-cost iPad Mini
Most of the speculations and rumors mainly point towards an early 2014 launch of both iPad mini Retina display and low-cost iPad mini without Retina display. The non-Retina version of iPad mini 2 will actually help Apple to access people with low budgets. Emerging markets, like Asian ones, are expected to take advantage of the low-priced Apple's tablet. However, iPad mini 2 without Retina display will come with A6 chip instead of A7X. This is to lower the price of the device. Currently the basic version of iPad mini is available at $329. But a low-price tag of $249 is expected to come attached with the lower-cost iPad mini model.
Apple is said to launch a new iPhone 5S and a low-cost iPhone 5C along with the new iOS 7 version on September 10th. But not all the iOS devices will be supported by Apple's new iOS 7 operating system. iPad support for iOS 7 will not come on the designated date. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman said that the iPad version of iOS 7 will not come until the release of iOS 7 beta 2.
Apple is also set to launch its iWatch in 2014. So along with both Retina and non-Retina models of iPad mini 2, the iWatch is also listed for launch in 2014. But a much bigger and awaited new iPhone launch event is to be held on Tuesday. I am sure all Apple lovers like me will be waiting anxiously for the big day. Just a day more, folks, and we will see what we had been waiting for all along!
