The first CFO of Amazon and Internet pioneer, Joy Covey has died at 50 in a bicycle accident on Wednesday, September 18th. She was a key Amazon executive in her times and was killed when her bike collided with a minivan.

One of the notable players in the launch and progress of Amazon has just died a tragic death. Joy Covey, with her high IQ and Harvard Business School degree gave a helping hand in making Amazon what it is today. She had a very active lifestyle. This woman led the company through its crucial IPO days.

She had been declared #28 on Fortune‚Äôs Most Powerful Women in Business list some fourteen odd years ago. She leaves behind her an 8 year old son named Tyler. Covey was a remarkable woman with a curious amalgam of discoverer and explorer inside her. Her parents instilled a spirit of wild adventurousness in her and she truly lived a free life.

The selfsame spirit was brought to Amazon by this daring lady with a mission. She was a risk-taker and broadminded optimist to the core. Just when Amazon was going broke she fought hard to lend it a pick-me-up and the company simply took off. Collaborating with Jeff Bezos, the CEO and founding father of Amazon, Covey made some crucial decisions that gave the necessary stimulus to the organization in its time of need. She will be missed by friends and family indeed.

At the time of her death Covey was 50 years old. She loved participating in extreme sports and truly lived each moment of her life as if it was her last. All our empathy goes out to her near and dear ones and may her soul rest in peace.
