Mozilla Firefox OS gets updated to version 1.1

Mozilla's Firefox OS for mobile devices may still have a long way to go, but the foundation is ramping up the pace by announcing version 1.1 today. The update brings a hefty bunch of features including the much-needed performance enhancements, as well as support for more languages.

Breaking down the updates on its official blog, Mozilla writes about support for MMS which now lets users send and receive images and other files, and the nifty push notification API which will allow developers to design their apps in such as way that it is able to deliver timely notifications .

Version 1.1 also adds adaptive app search, contact management enhancements for Gmail and Hotmail (Outlook), music search, and calender modifications. Performance-wise, Mozilla talks about a string of improvements on the keyboard, scrolling, browser downloads, and load times. Firefox OS now also supports 15 more languages.

There's still a long way to go in order for it compete with Android and iOS, but Mozilla is definitely taking the right steps to progress.
