On October 09, 2013, the world was able to view its first curved display screen smartphone, courtesy of Samsung Electronics.
Now though the smartphone manufacturers are coming up with something new every other month in order to woo the customers, the novelty of a horizontally curved display screen smartphone goes somewhere beyond that.
According to the company, "The new smartphone, rightly named as the ‘Galaxy Round’, not only helps the users to navigate the smartphone in a better and easy way - but the whole idea of a curved display smartphone opens a completely new horizon for more bendable, flexible and wearable smart devices." According to Hana Daetoo Securities analyst Nam Dae-jong, "It's a step forward for having unbreakable gadgets and flexible devices eventually. But for now, the new phone is more of a symbolic product."
Featuring a 5.7in or 14.5cm organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display, the curved display screen of Galaxy Round will enable users to check information such as date, time, and missed calls even when the home screen is turned off. Similarly, changing song tracks will also be possible without turning on the screen.
But though already unveiled, customers would have to wait a little more as the smartphone will be first launched in its home country South Korea where else a global launching plan is still unheard of.
Now with rival LG already working on their version of curved screen display smartphone, the world is waiting for a radical change in the smartphone technology and industry.
