The quest to take electric cars into the lives of ordinary people will be a difficult process. That is why Tesla Motors has decided to create the world’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility. This will be a humongous project. The fact is that the number of electric cars is outrunning the number of batteries to fuel them. That is why the company plans on mass production of the batteries.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, “This will be a giant facility. We are talking about something that is comparable to all of the lithium-ion battery production in the world — in one factory,” during Q3 earnings conference call. “It’s big.”

Furthermore, the CEO, Elon Musk spoke of how the venture was going to be quite environment-friendly. Besides zero emissions of pollutant gases there would be a lot of recycling going on to save up on raw materials. The whole process of battery production, from raw material till finishing, will be done in this factory. It is literally described as a Giga Factory of sorts. North America will most likely be the place to built this factory.

The ambitions of the execs at Tesla are laudable. They have a scheme that will outsell all the lithium batteries produced in the world. Apart from Tesla’s CEO’s passion for outer space exploration and his concept of the Hyperloop, this is something new indeed.

Being the global leader in lithium ion battery manufacturing factories is no mean feat. Over two billion new samples are to be made over the next four odd years. They will go on to fuel the Model S and Model X which is yet to come on the scene in 2014. The CEO is not revealing any more details on the subject. However, it is a sure thing that Tesla Motors will put all its energy and efforts into this unique project.
