Utah has become the 18th state to legalize gay marriage. This occurred after a judge appointed by President Obama declared the same-sex marriage ban as unconstitutional. Homosexuals and members of the LGBT movement are full of joy at the landmark decision.

As everyone knows the state of Utah is Mormon territory. This particular denomination looks down upon same-sex marriages. But, now for the first time in its history, a federal judge named Shelby has overturned this strict law and favored homosexual marriages.

The judge, who was appointed at his designation by none other than President Obama, spoke of how there was no reasonable evidence against the practice. The people of Utah had been against gay unions since the past decade or so. Now that all the strictures are about to change, the community of gays and lesbians will have access to the rights they were denied for so long.

Utah happens to be the 18th state after New Mexico to legalize same-sex marriages. While Shelby’s verdict remains controversial, he is adamant that gay marriages in no way contradict ordinary wedlock. Rather, this watershed in the annals of the state has restored the dignity that was the birthright of the LGBT community.

Meanwhile, the same-sex couples who want to tie the knot are in ecstasy at the final ruling by Shelby. They are truly happy at the recognition of their basic human rights. Several other states guarantee freedom of expression to homosexuals. Among these may be included: California, Hawaii and New Jersey as well as the recent additional state of Utah.
