‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all down the Street
Not a trader was stirring, not even a cheat.
The portfolios were locked up with the greatest of care,
In hopes that St. Ben soon would be there.
The brokers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of wealthy clients danced in their heads.
And mom in her blue chips, and I in small caps,
Had just settled our accounts for long Q4-ending naps.
When out on my computer there arose such a twitter,
I sprang to the desk to see if GLD still had its glitter.
Away to my platform I flew like a flash,
Fired up the password and checked on my cash.
I was worried that a hot IPO had made a new low,
And could not find support at the trendline below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But “Christmasville” and eight tiny avatar reindeer.
With a small handsome driver, real smart and so Zen,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Ben.
More rapid than margin calls his players they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
“Now Janet! Now, Charles! Now, James and William!
On, Sarah! On, Jerome! On Eric and Narayana!
Let’s finesse the taper and the market shan’t fall!
Now dash away doomsayers! Dash away all!”
And then, in a twinkling, I read on Facebook,
Some continued low rates to get housing off the hook.
As I clicked on my mouse the markets turned ‘round,
And surely St. Ben a solution had found.
He tweeted not a word, but went straight to his work,
From his sled $75 billion he did throw, then turned with a jerk.
And lay down his bazooka and big money hose,
Gave a quick nod, and away from his Bloomberg he rose.
He sprang to his limo, gave the team a high five,
And away they drove as the Santa Rally did finally arrive.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
(Author’s note: It is holiday season and thoughts turn to friends and family, and also those less fortunate and struggling in any number of ways. Please check out a Forbes piece on the top charities in the U.S.:
This holiday season, the Toys for Tots organization as always provides a wonderful service, the American Red Cross is helping in any number of ways around the world, especially regarding the Philippines tragedy, United Way serves individuals and communities in many different important areas, and Feeding America focuses on helping the hungry through food banks and other services. Of course you likely have your own favorite charities and I am sure they are very thankful for your support. I have recently come across an organization through some trading friends that is helping entrepreneurs in poverty-stricken Myanmar which I thought was very interesting, http://opportunitiesnow.org/. Wishing everyone the best of holiday seasons!
