Appliances will be able to understand and respond to LINE texts
LG is set to debut some new smart appliances at CES 2014. The new smart appliances are notable for all featuring LG HomeChat. The HomeChat feature gives the appliances the ability to understand messages sent from the user via chat application LINE and to respond.
The user will be able to send a message via LINE to their refrigerator, for example, telling it they are going on a vacation for three days. The appliance could respond asking if it should go into power saving vacation mode. If the user replies with yes to that question, the appliance will automatically go into the vacation mode.
"Always at the forefront of innovation, LG is continually striving to inspire smarter consumer lifestyles in meaningful ways," said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. "We're excited to be able to bring to CES our smart appliances with the newest communication and intelligence capabilities."
The smart appliances with chat capability include a washing machine, smart oven, and a robotic vacuum. Smart appliances are expected to be one of the faster growing segments at CES 2014.
