A rebel yell has come out of Samsung as everything about it goes heavy metal. The South Korean giant, Samsung will reportedly launch its Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014. Mobile World Congress 2014 is scheduled to be held from February 24-27 in Barcelona.
The Korean media reports that Samsung’s Vice President and Head of Design Strategy, Dong-hoon Chang, officially confirms the launch of Galaxy S5 during a New Year’s party at Shilla Hotel in Seoul. According to the reports, he said that the rumors of the debut of Galaxy S5 at the MWC 2014 are “about right.”
Samsung Galaxy S5 is said to be a smartphone encased in an aluminum shell. And this may be a little costly but then there is no such thing as a free lunch. This is a first for Samsung in its Galaxy Series. The move came in response to the iPhone and HTC One which had chosen metallic covers as well. The brand new style has been labeled “Design 3.0”.
The entire story has not been aired and much has been left unsaid so as to increase the suspense factor. The current S4 model has been literally created out of polymer and glass. It is not as tough as a full metal jacket. And the previous S3 was made of the same material.
But in case of the future Galaxy S5 the whole pattern is going to undergo a good change. Aluminum is light in weight yet very strong stuff indeed. It gives a solid, stable and sturdy look and feel to this phone, the arrival of which still lies in the unpredictable future. And while plastic had its pros and cons so does aluminum.
At present, however, it is the Samsung Galaxy S4 that is king. Just a few weeks after its introduction into the market so many have been sold that the phenomenon defies the imagination. But already the S5 is being touted as the new sensation which will appear on the scene within 12 months time span.
The sane approach though is to wait and see where the situation is leading before jumping to conclusions. Samsung will surely tinker with the design process and may even change its mind regarding many aspects. There is no hard and fast rule that says what is said will be followed through in reality.
Furthermore, if the casing is not to be made of plastic, it will not be removable either. And an aluminum body will rule out the presence of a microSD card slot. A battery that can be taken out of the device will be besides the point due to a metal chassis.
