2015 Corvette gets its own track day video recording system
Chevrolet has announced one of the coolest options ever for the 2015 Corvette Stingray. The new options is called the Performance Data Recorder and the PDR will be available later this year when normal production for the 2015 Stingray kicks off. The PDR adds a 720p resolution camera to the windshield header of the car.
The system also has a mic inside for recording audio and a telemetry module. The telemetry module uses a highly sensitive GPS receiver and is hardwired into the vehicle systems. That allows the video to be overlaid with performance data from the car like speed, lap time, and a map of the racetrack the car is navigating among other details.
The system was developed in cooperation with Cosworth, the company that provides telemetry systems for Corvette Racing. Pricing for the system is unknown. The video and data is stored to a SD card located in a slot inside the glove box. The video can be watched when the car is sitting still on the in-dash touchscreen.
