The mother of Trayvon Martin spoke about how he was shot dead by George Zimmerman due to the sick policy of racial profiling. She blamed the system that was biased against colored people and said that her son’s tragic death had occurred due to this flaw in America’s edifice of law and justice.

Speaking to a large audience of people in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin railed against the conditions which were responsible for her son’s death at the hands of a law which couldn’t differentiate between good and evil.

The event was the 30th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Many people sported T-shirts that proclaimed that Trayvon Martin’s life had no price since it was priceless.

Sybrina spoke eloquently about the meaningless shooting of her son while he was on the way to meet his father. A neighborhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman had interrogated him on the way. The two got into a scuffle and Zimmerman shot him in the chest leading to his death.

Later on when matters reached the court, Zimmerman was acquitted due to his having acted in self defense. The law didn’t charge him with anything even though his girlfriend too came out with allegations that he had once pointed a gun at her and tried to asphyxiate her.

Trayvon’s mother said that racial profiling was alive and well in America. And she said that this was not just about her son. So many other people in America could have their sons killed in the future simply due to a dumb law.

The fact that her son was wearing a hood and had dark skin color showed that there is something very wrong with America’s criteria. Trayvon’s mother also said that this thing was not confined to her locality. It could happen anywhere, even in Salt Lake City, Utah.
