Direct Neill Blomkamp, the man behind the camera for the excellent sci-fi film District 9, may be returning to the ‘Halo’ universe.

Blomkamp, along with producer Peter Jackson, was previously slated to direct a Halo motion picture until that project disintegrated. The director went on to make District 9 instead.
Blomkamp indicated last April that he would be interested in returning to the franchise if he had more creative control.
“I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film,” Blomkamp told IGN.
“But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property. Then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn’t appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.”
Now the Latino Review is reporting that “trusted sources” have confirmed Blomkamp as the director of the upcoming live-action Halo TV series pilot.
The Stephen Spielberg-produced series is being overseen by 343 Industries, the developer behind Halo 4, and will be available only via Xbox One.
I’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment on Blomkamp’s involvement with the series.
A Microsoft spokesperson responded to my inquiry, saying “We do not comment on speculation and rumors. We’ll have much more to share regarding the overall creative team behind the ‘Halo’ Television Series in the near future.”
