If you own an Xbox 360 and you have nothing going on this weekend, you might want to get online and play some games. As most will know, you have to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold to be able to play multiplayer games on the Xbox 360.
While the monthly service isn't expensive there are likely some out there that aren't members for one reason or another. If the reason is that, you don’t think you would play much; this is your weekend to try out the service.
CNET reports that Microsoft is offering a free weekend of access starting today and running through February 16. Free Xbox Live Gold access starts at 12am PT today and runs through 11:59pm on February 16. The free access is open for gamers on the Xbox 360 in the US and Canada. If you are in another country, you are out of luck.
Out of luck at least for a free weekend, but other countries can get an even better deal. In other places gamers can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Xbox Live Gold giving you a while month to try the service out.
If the free weekend seals the deal for you and you want to subscribe you can also get a discounted year membership. That membership will cost $39.99 rather than the typical price of $59.99. If you don’t have a Valentine, at least you can curl up with a video game this weekend.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
