The Duggars are on reality TV yet they are not your run-of-the-mill celebrities like say the Kardashians. Instead they consist of a very religious and traditional family that has many daughters and sons. And while they allow their daughters to have boyfriends, what they won’t allow is dating.
Rather courtship is the word they choose to describe the process. Their daughters have to seek their parents’ approval before they can even have a boyfriend. And if the boyfriends don’t pass paterfamilias’s test, they are out of the league that the Duggars belong to.
Jill Duggar was introduced to her new boyfriend Derick Dillard via her father. "I was impressed with him as I got to know him over the years. He sounded like an amazing young man," Jim Bob explains.
The two are courting each other under the supervision of her father, Jim. Jim hooked up with Derick in Nepal where they became prayer partners.
"I was in love with someone I had never met in person, but we really knew each other well," recalls Jill Duggar, who later flew to Nepal with her father to meet Derick in person.
Meanwhile, her sibling Jessa too is courting someone. And that love interest is Ben Seewald. Things may work out so that ultimately a wedding lies in the cards.
"I'm that type of person that I'm not going to get emotional or like daydream about [a guy] unless he really expresses his interest," Jessa Duggar said. "I'm not gonna set my expectations on anything happening."
The Duggars have a special link with the Creator and they want to fulfill all the commandments the Lord sent down on earth. Especially via a firm faith in Jesus and love for Him they want to prove that even in today’s ultramodern world of excess, there can be traditional conservatism that has an iota of homeliness and warmth.
Their trust in their daughters is built on a very solid foundation. While they let their grownup daughters make their own decisions, there is a line that these finely brought-up ladies will not cross with a boyfriend.
They don’t believe in even kissing before marriage. And that is something very admirable and surprising in the Internet Age when even eight year old children are often caught viewing hardcore pornography online.
