A rancher in Nevada has clashed with the federal government over his right to allow his cattle to graze on foreign land.
It’s a dispute that is over two decades old. Cliven Bundy has been locked in a tussle with the federal government rangers regarding the freeway his cattle have been given to graze on the surrounding territories around his ranch.
Now, various militia organizations have also jumped on the bandwagon with Bundy. The war it seems has been prolonged and the attrition it is causing has intensified. Those on Bundy’s side claim that the government is engaged in oppression against them.
The government recently took to rounding up the many cattle. This has enraged Bundy and his cohorts. Las Vegas is the epicenter of the whole conflict. And it almost came to fisticuffs when police rangers stood armed with Tasers and guard dogs against the protestors. There have been accusations of violence and injustice on both sides.
The protestors have become more and more restless and agitated with the passage of time. “Get out of our state” one of them shouted. To many the aged Bundy has become an icon of sorts. He is a figure who has become somewhat of a rebel with a cause.
However, many feds and lawmakers regard Bundy as an outlaw and rule-breaker. The fact that he takes pride in flouting the law has earned him notoriety in the formal authoritative circles. According to reports, he owes the government about a million dollars in grazed credits.
Meanwhile, the government has taken what appears to be a last resort. It is rounding up his cattle and there are hundreds of them. The fact that he has been allowing his cattle to graze illegally is about to have some consequences now. However, the government ought to have been stricter with him from day one instead of allowing matters to get out of hand.
