The Hybrid Zebra is Shown Running and Playing

The Reynosa Zoo in Northern Mexico announced that a baby Zonkey was born on Monday, April 21st.  The rare animal was shown to the public for the first time this week jumping and playing around its mother.

The baby Zonkey, named Khumba, is a cross between a dwarf albino donkey and a zebra.  The mother zebra, named Rayas, had been seen going to visit the blue-eyed donkey on multiple occasions at a local nearby farm according to ITV News.

The newborn calf can be seen having traits and characters of both its father and mother.  The calves upper body shows mostly signs of its father, while the legs are striped in a similar fashion of the mother zebra.

The birth of a hybrid zebra is rare due to the difference in chromosomes that the two species have between each other.  This can leave the calf unable to produce offspring after it has matured into a full grown adult.
