She faced a tough opponent in the form of Allen Johnson. The competition was deadly and the heat was on. Yet Erica Enders-Steven showed the world what she had in terms of guts and glory.
She turned out to be a winner who took part in the game of race car driving fair and square and beat the rivals with one hand tied behind her back. Enders’ timing was 6.594 while Johnson’s was 6.588.
The edge went to Erica and she cleared the course as a smooth operator alright. Enders has gone on to praise her team. She attributes perseverance as the reason behind her victory.
“My team’s been really awesome,” said Enders-Stevens. “I’ve had a really consistent race car. That’s what it takes Sundays, consistency. We had to make last second transmission change and go through the gears to make sure everything was right.”
Erica has been involved in drag car racing since she was a teenager. She drove the cars with confidence and cunning ability. Never did she ever give up on her dreams. And today she is successful.
It just goes to show that anything can be accomplished provided the will and courage is there. Talent alone is not enough. It is stick-ability that differentiates the star from the superstar.
Now the advantage lies with Erica. And she is determined to continue in her winner’s streak till she attains her ultimate goal. The fight is for the top position.
“The ball’s in our court,” Enders-Stevens said. “We’ve got to carry the momentum. That’s important in this game, and I know I keep saying that, but it’s huge, and we’re going to keep carrying it as long as we can. Pro Stock really goes in cycles, so I’m really hoping this is our cycle, and we’re going to keep fighting for it.”
Besides Erica, Robert Hight and Anton Brown also won trophies for their flawless performance on the race track. When tires meet tarmac, it is just the driver and the path that lies ahead. The race car driver must concentrate and focus while excluding all other distractions. And then sweet victory will come knocking on the door. That much is for sure.
